The Standard

The Phantom was built for one purpose: carrying a serious pistol discreetly beneath normal clothing without turning the carrier into a pack mule.

A government-frame 1911 beneath an untucked button-down. A Glock 17 under a sport coat. A full-capacity fighting pistol carried without dressing like you planned your wardrobe around the gun.

In 2006, most Kydex holsters were still built around competition and tactical applications. Concealed carry as a mass civilian market was still young. The dominant concealment answer remained leather, while many Kydex designs were essentially overt-use holsters forced into concealment roles they had never actually been designed for.

The Phantom approached the problem differently.

The pancake format positioned the belt attachments fore and aft of the pistol instead of stacking them directly over the gun body. The pistol sits closer to the body. Less bulk sticking out. Harder to spot.

The Phantom then added something the category did not have yet: modularity.

The same mounting holes accepted OWB loops, IWB soft loops, tuckable hardware, and alternate ride-height configurations using the same holster body. One platform. Multiple carry modes. No replacement holster required.

The Phantom carries as much gun as your body and your wardrobe will allow. It does not add to that equation.

The original Phantom launched in Kydex. RCS later transitioned production to Boltaron because it offered better dimensional consistency, greater thermal stability, and improved long-term durability under daily use.

The geometry stayed. The material improved.

What Makes an OWB Concealment Holster Work

The OWB Concealment Compromise

Every carry method is a negotiated compromise. OWB carry trades some concealment for faster access, greater long-term comfort, easier concealment of full-size pistols, and reduced dependence on oversized pants or additional waistband space.

Historically, the weakness of OWB concealment was simple: the gun sticks out too far. The farther it sticks out, the more it prints beneath clothing, the harder it is to dress around, and the more you end up sizing up to boxy cover garments that announce the gun as clearly as the gun itself.

The pancake format works because it keeps the gun from sticking out as far. By positioning the belt attachments beside the pistol instead of stacking them over it, the holster occupies less outward space against the torso. The belt, hardware, and pistol share the same space instead of layering outward.

The Phantom does not eliminate the tradeoff of OWB carry. It compresses it to the minimum the format allows.

Concealment is geometry, not carry position.

The Profile

The Phantom rides high and close to the body with a footprint only marginally larger than the pistol itself.

Reducing stand-off changes concealment dramatically. The farther a pistol sticks out from the body, the harder it is to hide beneath normal clothing.

The pancake construction keeps the pistol closer to the torso by positioning the belt attachments beside the gun instead of stacking hardware directly on top of it. Less bulk away from the body. Less printing. Easier concealment.

The result is an OWB holster capable of concealing full-size, optics-equipped pistols beneath clothing many carriers assume requires IWB carry.

Professional Carry — Field Proven Since 2006

The Phantom has been approved for duty use by nearly every federal law enforcement agency.

That approval record matters, but it is not the most significant proof claim. In the operational environment of early Iraq and Afghanistan — when .gov and .mil personnel operating in low-visibility civilian contexts needed a concealment holster they could trust in conditions that were anything but controlled — the Phantom was what they reached for. Not because it was issued. Because it was the right tool.

That is a different kind of validation than agency approval. Agency approval means the holster passed an evaluation. Field selection by people operating in genuinely hostile environments, from their own equipment choices, means the holster earned it.

The Phantom accepts interchangeable attachment hardware through a shared mounting system that supports both OWB and IWB carry configurations using the same holster body.

This modularity remains one of the Phantom's defining characteristics.

The same shell can transition between standard OWB belt loops, IWB soft loops, tuckable overhooks, tuckable Softloop Struts, and alternate ride-height or offset configurations. Retention — Hand-Fitted at the Factory

The Phantom uses passive retention formed directly into the thermoformed Boltaron shell.

Retention is set during manufacturing rather than adjusted by the end user through external tension screws. Each fitment is hand-tuned during production to achieve consistent retention characteristics for that specific pistol geometry.

The result: secure enough for daily movement and physical activity, consistent during the draw, and stable over long-term carry.

No retention screws. No tuning process. No break-in ritual.

Body Shield

The inboard side of the Phantom — the surface that faces the body — incorporates a body shield: a contoured Boltaron panel that keeps the pistol from rubbing directly against the carrier during extended wear.

The body shield is not a separate component. It is part of the holster body — one piece of Boltaron, formed into the inboard surface during manufacturing. It adds no meaningful thickness to the holster profile. It is there because a pistol riding against skin or clothing for eight hours creates friction, pressure points, and wear on both the carrier and the equipment. The body shield prevents that contact without adding bulk.

Optics and Pistol Compatibility

The Phantom is a non-light-bearing OWB concealment holster. Carriers running a weapon-mounted light should see the Phantom LC (Light Compatible).

Can the Phantom conceal a full-size pistol under everyday clothing?

Yes — depending on your body type and cover garment. The Phantom's pancake construction minimizes stand-off and keeps the holster assembly as close to the body as the pistol's dimensions allow. A sport coat, untucked button-down, or loose overshirt will manage the silhouette on most body types. Cover garments are always part of the concealment equation with OWB carry; the Phantom is designed to make more of them work.

What is the difference between the Phantom and the Phantom LC?

The Phantom is built for pistols without a weapon-mounted light. The Phantom LC is built for pistols with one. The shell geometry differs between them — a standard Phantom shell will not correctly fit a light-equipped pistol. If you run or plan to run a weapon-mounted light, order the Phantom LC. Both use the same modular attachment system and carry identically; only the outboard shell differs.

What is the difference between the Phantom and the Perun?

Both are OWB concealment holsters using a pancake-style belt attachment geometry. The Phantom is thermoformed from Boltaron and is modular — the same holster body carries OWB or IWB through interchangeable attachment hardware, and offers a wider range of attachment options for ride height and cant adjustment. The Perun is injection-molded from a more durable polymer and is strictly an OWB platform. The Perun has a smaller holster body. Both are daily-carry capable; the Phantom adds IWB versatility and a broader hardware catalog, the Perun offers greater material durability and a more compact profile.

Is the Phantom optics compatible?

Yes. The Phantom accommodates pistols fitted with common red dot optics including Holosun, Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Sig Romeo series, Shield RMSc, Vortex, and Burris FastFire. Can the Phantom accommodate a threaded barrel?

Yes. The muzzle end of the Phantom is open. A threaded barrel or muzzle device can extend past the holster body without fitment conflict. The open muzzle also allows debris that enters during carry to exit freely.

Is the Phantom available in a left-handed configuration?

Yes. The Phantom is available in both left- and right-handed configurations, specified at order. The holster body is hand-specific for correct trigger guard fit and retention geometry.

What OWB holster works well under an untucked t-shirt?

The Phantom, worn OWB at the 3:30–4:00 position on a rigid gun belt, is one of the more capable options for t-shirt concealment. The pancake construction keeps the holster close to the body and minimizes the stand-off that causes printing. Whether it works for you depends on your body type and the cut of the shirt — but the Phantom is designed to give the cover garment the best possible chance.

Can the Phantom be used with a drop/offset kit?

Yes. The modular attachment system supports drop and offset configurations that lower or adjust the pistol's position on the belt — useful for body armor wear or carry contexts that require a different ride height than standard belt loop hardware provides. Why choose OWB instead of IWB carry?
