The Standard

The Phantom LC carries a weapon-light-equipped pistol beneath everyday clothing — OWB or IWB, from the same modular platform — with the same geometry discipline that defined the Phantom when the Phantom itself was new.

A full-size Glock with a TLR1 HL beneath a sport coat. A Sig P320 with an X300U under an untucked shirt.

When the Phantom LC was developed, the industry had not finished solving the simpler problem. Kydex concealment holster design for pistols alone was still being worked out. The conventional answer to carrying with a weapon-mounted light was to accept the visibility, or to remove the light.

RCS solved both problems simultaneously.

The Phantom LC does not ask you to choose between your light and your concealment.

The shell geometry is built to the specific dimensions of each pistol/light combination — not oversized to fit a range of lights and precise for none of them. The Boltaron wraps tight against the light body. Retention is set to the actual geometry of that specific light at that specific mounting point. The concealment profile is as compact as the physical footprint of the combined system allows.

The Phantom LC launched in Kydex. RCS later moved to Boltaron for better dimensional consistency, greater thermal stability, and improved long-term durability under daily carry. The geometry stayed. The material improved.

For more than two decades, the Phantom LC has carried a full-capacity pistol and light for people who carry routinely, professionally, and for reasons more serious than hobby interest.

Good gear disappears from behavior.

What Makes a Light-Compatible OWB Concealment Holster Work

Requirement Why It Matters
Light-specific shell geometry A shell built to the exact dimensions of each pistol/light pairing eliminates the gap between the outboard panel and the light body. Generic light-compatible designs leave that gap — and that gap is where concealment fails.
Pancake geometry The belt attachments sit beside the pistol and light, not stacked over them. The farther the system sticks out from the body, the harder it is to hide. Pancake geometry keeps it close.
Hand-fitted passive retention Retention is set at the factory for the specific pistol/light geometry. No adjustment screws. No break-in tuning. Consistent from the first draw.
Inboard body shield Keeps the pistol from rubbing against the carrier during extended wear without adding bulk to the profile.
Dimensionally stable Boltaron construction A thermoformed Boltaron shell holds its shape and retention fit across temperature and daily wear. A shell that softens or distorts under heat will not maintain the fit it was built for.
Modular attachment system with IWB conversion The same holster body carries OWB or IWB through interchangeable hardware. Carriers who need both modes do not need two holsters.
Suppressor-height and optics compatibility Carriers running a weapon-mounted light are typically also running an optic. The holster must accommodate both simultaneously.
Specific light model documentation A holster that claims "light compatible" without listing which lights it fits is a fitment risk. The Phantom LC specifies every supported light model.

The Phantom LC was built around those requirements from the beginning.

The OWB Light-Compatible Concealment Compromise

Adding a weapon-mounted light compounds the standard OWB concealment tradeoff. OWB carry already means the pistol sits farther from the body than IWB. A weapon-mounted light adds more width beyond the pistol's profile. Both increase how far the system sticks out — and the farther it sticks out, the harder it is to hide.

A weapon-mounted light is a capability decision. Carriers who run one have already decided that the capability is worth the additional profile. The Phantom LC is not designed to argue them out of that — it is designed to minimize how much profile the holster itself adds on top of what the light already contributes.

The right question for a light-compatible holster is not "can I conceal this at all" but "how much harder is this to conceal than running without a light?" The Phantom LC's answer is: not much. The shell is built to the specific dimensions of the light, which eliminates the gap that generic designs leave between the outboard panel and the light body. On most body types, under a sport coat or untucked overshirt at 3:30–4:00, the cover garment management is not meaningfully different from running the same pistol without a light.

Some clothing and some environments will make OWB light-compatible concealment impractical regardless of holster quality. That is a function of the light's dimensions and the cover garment's cut — not the holster. The Phantom LC cannot compress the physical footprint of the light. What it can do is keep everything else — shell fit, carry geometry, attachment position — at its minimum.

Concealment is geometry, not carry position.

The Profile

The Phantom LC rides at the same height and position as the standard Phantom. The outboard shell extends to cover the light body fully — from its forward face to its rearmost edge.

The farther a system sticks out from the body, the harder it is to hide. The pancake construction keeps the Phantom LC close to the torso by positioning the belt attachments beside the pistol and light rather than stacking hardware on top of them. The combined weight of a light-equipped pistol is greater than a bare pistol. Distributing that weight correctly across the belt contact area keeps the system riding flat and tight rather than pulling forward and outward.

The outboard shell covers the light body as well as the pistol. Neither the trigger guard area nor the light housing protrudes into cover garment contact. The grip is the only element requiring active concealment management — and on a correctly positioned holster, on a rigid gun belt, that management is no different from running the same pistol without a light.

Who the Phantom LC Is Built For

The Phantom LC was built for carriers who run a weapon-mounted light as part of their standard configuration and need to conceal it — not as a compromise, but as a daily carry solution.

Especially well-suited for:

  • Plainclothes and low-visibility professional use with a light-equipped platform
  • Carriers who run a weapon-mounted light and need OWB or IWB concealment from the same holster
  • Full-size pistol carry with a rail-mounted light beneath a sport coat or untucked overshirt
  • Carriers alternating between suited and tactical environments
  • Federal, law enforcement, and military personnel carrying light-equipped platforms in plainclothes roles

The Phantom LC is not optimized for:

  • Pistols without a weapon-mounted light — order the standard Phantom
  • Competition or range use
  • Overt tactical use requiring active retention systems

If you do not currently run a weapon-mounted light but plan to, order the Phantom LC for your specific planned light — do not order the standard Phantom and plan to swap later. The shells are not interchangeable.

Professional Carry — Field Proven

The Phantom LC has been approved for duty use by federal law enforcement agencies and has been carried in plainclothes and low-visibility roles by .gov and .mil personnel since its introduction.

That use history matters for a specific reason: a light-compatible concealment holster that has only been tested on a range has not been tested. The Phantom LC has been carried under suits, under sport coats, in vehicles, and in operational environments where the holster needed to perform correctly without adjustment or attention.

Products do not stay in professional circulation for twenty years by accident.

Modular Attachment — Same Platform, Multiple Configurations

The Phantom LC uses the same modular mounting architecture as the standard Phantom — same hole pattern, same hardware catalog, same IWB and OWB attachment options.

A carrier transitioning from a standard Phantom to a light-equipped platform does not need to rebuild their carry system. The attachment hardware transfers. The shell changes. Everything else stays the same.

Every Phantom LC ships with standard 1.5" OWB belt loops installed.

Available attachment options include:

  • Standard OWB belt loops
  • 1.75" OWB belt loops
  • IWB soft loops
  • IWB tuckable overhooks
  • IWB Tuckable Softloop Struts
  • Pancake wings
  • Drop/offset kit

Additional attachment hardware is available separately at rcsgear.com.

Retention — Hand-Fitted at the Factory

The Phantom LC uses passive retention formed directly into the thermoformed Boltaron shell.

Retention is set during manufacturing rather than adjusted by the end user. Each fitment is hand-tuned during production to the specific pistol/light geometry. The result: secure enough for daily movement and physical activity, consistent during the draw, and stable over long-term carry.

No retention screws. No tuning process. No break-in ritual.

Set at the factory. Stays there.

Shell Fit — Light-Specific, Not Universal

The Phantom LC is not a universal light-compatible holster.

Universal designs are built with a shell cavity large enough to fit multiple light models. The cost of that flexibility is a gap between the shell and the light body on every configuration that is not the largest one. That gap is where the concealment breaks down — the outboard panel does not track tightly against the light, the profile increases, and the retention fit varies by light model rather than staying consistent.

The Phantom LC is built to the specific dimensions of each supported pistol/light combination. The shell wraps the light body at its actual dimensions. Retention is set against the actual geometry of the specific light at order. The concealment profile is as tight as the combined system's footprint allows.

The trade is that the Phantom LC is a fitment-specific order. You specify your pistol and your light model. The shell is built for that combination. If you change lights, the shell changes.

That is the correct trade for a concealment application.

Body Shield

The inboard side of the Phantom LC incorporates a body shield: a contoured Boltaron panel that keeps the pistol from rubbing directly against the carrier during extended wear.

The body shield is not a separate component. It is part of the holster body — formed into the inboard surface during manufacturing. A light-equipped pistol is a wider, heavier system than a bare pistol. The body shield ensures the rail area and grip frame are not pressing against the carrier's body or clothing during long carry days.

Optics and Pistol Compatibility

The Phantom LC accommodates pistols equipped with a weapon-mounted light and common red dot optics simultaneously. Running both is the intended configuration.

Compatible weapon-mounted lights:

  • Streamlight TLR1 HL
  • Streamlight TLR7A
  • Streamlight TLR7A / TLR7X / TLR7HLX
  • Streamlight TLR7sub
  • Streamlight TLR-8
  • SureFire X300U A/B
  • SureFire XC3

Compatible optics (confirm by fitment at order):

  • Holosun 407C, 507C, 508T series
  • Trijicon RMR (all generations), SRO
  • Leupold DeltaPoint Pro
  • Sig Sauer Romeo series (Romeo1, Romeo1 Pro, Romeo Zero)
  • Shield RMSc
  • Vortex Venom, Viper

Suppressor-height front sight clearance: Yes — standard across all Phantom LC fitments.

Threaded barrel compatibility: Yes — the muzzle end is open, accommodating extended or threaded barrels without fitment conflict.

Carriers who do not use a weapon-mounted light should order the standard Phantom. The Phantom LC shell is sized for a light-equipped pistol and will not fit correctly around a bare-rail pistol. Contact RCS before ordering if your specific pistol, light, and optic combination is not listed.

Current RCS Customer Note

The Phantom LC uses the same modular attachment mounting points as the standard Phantom. Attachment hardware from the Phantom transfers directly to the Phantom LC — the shell changes, the hardware catalog does not. If you are transitioning from any other RCS platform, existing attachment hardware may not be compatible with the Phantom mounting system. Current Phantom-compatible attachment options are available at rcsgear.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Phantom LC conceal a full-size pistol with a weapon-mounted light?

Yes — depending on body type and cover garment. The Phantom LC's shell is built to the specific dimensions of each pistol/light combination, which minimizes the profile beyond what the light itself adds. Under a sport coat or untucked overshirt, a correctly fitted Phantom LC is manageable for most body types. The light adds real width. The holster does not add to it.

What is the difference between the Phantom LC and the standard Phantom?

Same platform — same Boltaron construction, same modular attachment system — different outboard shell. The standard Phantom is built for bare pistols. The Phantom LC shell is sized to a specific pistol/light combination. They are not interchangeable. If you do not run a weapon-mounted light, order the standard Phantom. If you do, order the Phantom LC.

Which weapon-mounted lights does the Phantom LC support?

Streamlight TLR1 HL, TLR7A, TLR7A/TLR7X/TLR7HLX, TLR7sub, and TLR-8; SureFire X300U A/B and XC3. Fitment is light-model specific — you specify both your pistol and your light model at order. If your light is not listed, contact RCS before ordering.

Is the Phantom LC optics compatible?

Yes. The Phantom LC accommodates pistols with red dot optics including Holosun, Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Sig Romeo series, Shield RMSc, and Vortex, in addition to the weapon-mounted light. Suppressor-height front sight clearance is standard. Running a red dot and a weapon-mounted light simultaneously is the intended full-capacity configuration.

What makes the Phantom LC different from a generic light-compatible holster?

Generic light-compatible holsters are built oversized to fit multiple light models. That means a gap between the shell and the light body — and that gap creates a wider profile and inconsistent retention. The Phantom LC is built to the specific dimensions of each pistol/light combination. The shell fits that exact pairing. No gap. Tighter profile. Consistent retention.

Can the Phantom LC accommodate a threaded barrel?

Yes. The muzzle end is open. A threaded barrel or muzzle device can extend past the holster body without fitment conflict.

Is the Phantom LC available in a left-handed configuration?

Yes. Available in both left- and right-handed configurations, specified at order. The holster body is hand-specific for correct trigger guard fit and retention geometry.

What OWB holster works for a Glock with a weapon light?

The Phantom LC is built specifically for this. For Glock platforms, it is available for the Glock 17/19 Gen 3/4/5, Glock 17/19/34, Glock 19 Gen 3/4/5, and Glock 48, paired with Streamlight TLR and SureFire X300 configurations. Select your Glock model and light model at the product page to confirm your specific shell pairing.

Can the Phantom LC be used while wearing body armor?

Yes. The modular attachment system supports drop/offset kit configurations that lower the pistol's position on the belt, keeping the grip accessible below the cummerbund line. Federal and law enforcement personnel carrying light-equipped platforms in tactical environments have used this configuration.

What belt does the Phantom LC require?

A rigid gun belt of 1.5" or 1.75" width. A light-equipped pistol is heavier than a bare pistol — on a soft belt, that weight pulls the holster away from the body and your concealment falls apart. A purpose-built gun belt is required.

Can the standard Phantom fit a pistol with a weapon-mounted light attached?

No. The standard Phantom shell is sized for a bare pistol. Forcing a light-equipped pistol into a standard Phantom shell will damage the shell geometry and defeat the retention fit. If you run a weapon-mounted light, the Phantom LC is the correct product.

Is the Phantom LC approved for law enforcement duty use?

Yes. The Phantom LC has been approved for duty use by federal law enforcement agencies and has been in continuous operational use since its introduction. Individual agency approval is a departmental determination — contact RCS if your agency requires documentation.
